Apple Vision Pro: What do reviewers say about Apple’s first-ever spatial computer?

0
The Apple Vision Pro has become the talk of the town lately, and why shouldn’t it? Apple debuted the Vision Pro at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 in June. Since then, Apple fans have been patiently waiting for its release, and now it is finally here. The Vision Pro is Apple’s first ever AR/VR headset, which the company calls a ‘spatial computer’. Apple CEO Tim Cook says the Vision Pro headset “seamlessly blends the digital world with the real world”. However, it is likely that no one would just take Cook’s word before purchasing the device. The Apple Vision Pro reviews are out now, and reviewers have a lot to say about Apple’s first-ever spatial computer.

Apple Vision Pro reviews

Apple Vision Pro reviews have been largely positive so far, with people saying it features the best tech of any VR headset. However, there have been shortcomings too, with reviewers particularly concerned about its weight, battery life and availability of apps.

After experiencing the Apple Vision Pro, The Verge’s Nilay Patel said that it is “magic, until its not”. Patel highlighted that the Vision Pro is the best consumer headset anyone has ever made, it comes with tradeoffs, some of which are too big to ignore. “And the biggest tradeoff of all is that using the Vision Pro is such a lonely experience, regardless of the weird ghost eyes on the front. You’re in there, having experiences all by yourself that no one else can take part in”, Patel said.

Meanwhile, CNET’s Scott Sein says “It’s easy to lose track of where I am when I’m wearing the Vision Pro. And it’s thrilling.” According to Sein, while parts of the Vision Pro are stunning, other parts seem unfinished, making it the hardest product to evaluate to date.

On the other hand, Joanna Stern of the Wall Street Journal states that the Apple Vision Pro is just a glimpse of the future. That said, the built-in virtual keyboard is only good for typing in passwords, and the Personas look “ridiculous”. But still, “so much of what the Vision Pro can do feels sci-fi”, says Stern.

YouTuber Marques Brownlee, popularly known by his channel MKBHD, says that the Vision Pro has some of the best tech he has ever seen on a VR headset, including the sharpest micro OLED displays and the best passthrough. However, it is not without its limitations. Brownlee said that the headset does not have as wide a field of view compared to some of the other VR headsets in the market, and not does it have as many apps. Marques said it is “a really expensive really fun toy”.

Forces of Nature! At India Art Fair 2024, Apple iPads and Macs help artists breathe life into their work

0
At the India Art Fair 2024, four multidisciplinary artists helped create immersive digital projects with iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, as they conducted the ‘Today at Apple’ sessions. As was clearly evident, there was no shortage of creativity and what was amazing to see was the way technology helped bring everything to life in vivid detail in South Mumbai. Meet the chief protagonists now!

Aaron “Myles” Pereira and Ameya Shinde. While Pereira is a product engineer at Animal Factory (also a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and live performer), Shinde is a designer at Studio BigFat. They are both digital artists in residence at the India Art Fair 2024, along with Dhruv Jani and Sadhna Prasad.

The responsibility was on them not just to present their creations, but also conduct the ‘Today at Apple’ sessions where attendees used iPads to create artworks inspired by the artists’ practices.

What is ‘Today at Apple’ program

This is a global program offering free sessions that assist customers in showcasing their creativity and making the most of their devices. These events are hosted at Apple Store locations all over the world, including Apple BKC and Apple Saket.

Aaron “Myles” Pereira and Ameya Shinde

The theme for this year is “Forces of Nature.” In response, Pereira and Shinde rolled out what they referred to as ‘Ornithoscope’. Created through MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, the immersive audiovisual experience lets the audience explore changes in India’s avian biodiversity over the last 15 years.

So, what does Pereira prefer? Well, he designs interactive soundscapes, working with Ableton Live and Logic Pro X for music production and audio engineering.

Then there is Shinde, a trained visual artist who finds inspiration in people and places. He honed his skills on the streets of Mumbai and considers Apple Pencil and iPad Pro to be essential travelling companions.

On what got them into the mood to pick this specific subject, Shinde concurs with Pereira while saying, “We want to draw attention to the fact that our natural world is getting quieter all the time.”

So, what was the end result of their collaboration? Their installation looks simple at first — an iPad Pro and projection screen surrounded by six speakers. However, once the viewer chooses a state or union territory to explore, the speakers produce surround sound of corresponding bird sounds from that region. The effects of urbanisation and deforestation become alarmingly clear as users move a slider between 2008 and 2022.

The artists’ creative processes are both collaborative and separate. Shinde creates independent artworks for each region that depict unique local bird species, handcrafted using Procreate on iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.

Pereira then imports the designs into his MacBook Pro with M3 Max chip and distorts them using a technique called multiple instancing. The entire software for the installation is built in Max MSP, a programming language that enables him to enhance the sound and generate visuals based on the audience’s interactions.

Dhruv Jani

Writer and artist Dhruv Jani installation takes viewers miles below Earth’s crust. It is a video game titled ‘It Takes A Long Time To Grow A Mountain’. The game sends players on a subterranean quest to discover the seed that spawned the Western Ghats mountain range. Players must descend through a substratum embedded with poetry, fables, and musings on language and landscape, designed and programmed on MacBook Pro with M3 Max.

“The project takes its name from a local myth about a man who seeks water for the parched land,” explains Jani. “His search awakens the gods sleeping deep below the earth. As they hunch awake, the Western Ghats spring up into existence, and the man is cursed to become a tiny seed for his transgressions.”

Jani, founder of Studio Oleomingus, works with creative coder Sushant Chakraborty.

Jani grew up on the coast in Daman, a region surrounded by a natural reserve and a protected forest. Today, it is a freight corridor between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The theme “Forces of Nature” led him to examine slower forces like sedimentation and geological time, and the role that humans and language play in warping these processes.

Inspired by Arun Kolatkar’s Jejuri, Jani starts by writing a series of poems that conflate notions of piety, landscape, and history. The visual process involves building textures on Adobe Photoshop, or hand-painting them with Apple Pencil on iPad Pro.

Work then shifts to MacBook Pro, where colourful and labyrinthine gamescapes are built using 3D modelling tools like Substance and SketchUp. He then compiles the game in the Unity3D game engine and precomputing light maps, with hardware-supported ray tracing to help create the game environment.

Sadhna Prasad

Sadhna Prasad, a muralist and illustrator, anchors audiences firmly in the present. “My project is called I’ll Be Back,” says Prasad and adds, “I want my audience to visit the world I create.”

Prasad is using Procreate and Procreate Dreams on iPad Pro to create a large-scale mural. It shows two worlds: One is the result of unsustainable living, and the other is the outcome if humanity reforms its ways. The artist is working with the Artivive app to turn the mural into an interactive augmented reality (AR) experience for the audience.

Prasad’s “floating studio” — iPad Pro and Apple Pencil — accompanies her everywhere. “Procreate on iPad Pro with Apple Pencil changed my life. The smoothness and the functionality make it perfect for an artist.”

She laments the indiscriminate urbanisation she sees all around Mumbai: “It irritates me, and I’m channelling that into this project. When I enter a natural space, I see ecosystems of insects, organisms, and plants,” she explains. “They exist in perfect balance. Hopefully, humans can also learn to live in harmony with other life on this planet,” she added

‘Today at Apple’ at the India Art Fair: How these four artists will power the event

Work by this year’s digital artists in residence will be on display at the Digital Residency Hub within the ‘The Studio’. They will also lead their own ‘Today at Apple’ sessions guided by the theme “Forces of Nature” between 1-4 February.

In the Reimagine the Natural Order session, Prasad will invite attendees to collaborate on an original new symbiotic piece that’s inspired by her interactive mural, using iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate.

Jani’s session, Origin Stories, will allow attendees a peek into his creative process and invite them to create their own piece of playable fiction using iPad.

And in Pereira and Shinde’s Lessons in Birdsong session, attendees will be able to use iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate to design their own visuals inspired by a sonic library of diverse sounds.

In addition to the artists’ sessions, fair attendees can also join interactive Today at Apple workshops hosted by Apple Creative Pros from Apple Saket in Delhi. These bespoke sessions are designed for visitors of all ages and experience levels to help them get more creative with iPad and Apple Pencil.

Apple @ Work: Ubiquiti launches the industry’s lowest-cost Wi-Fi 7 enterprise access point

0

Apple @ Work is exclusively brought to you by Mosyle, the only Apple Unified Platform. Mosyle is the only solution that integrates in a single professional-grade platform all the solutions necessary to seamlessly and automatically deploy, manage & protect Apple devices at work. Over 45,000 organizations trust Mosyle to make millions of Apple devices work-ready with no effort and at an affordable cost. Request your EXTENDED TRIAL today and understand why Mosyle is everything you need to work with Apple.

With rumors swirling that Apple will include Wi-Fi 7 in the upcoming iPhone 16, the networking industry is in full press on getting Wi-Fi 7 compatible access points on the market. Ubiquiti recently released its first Wi-Fi 7 access point: The U7 Pro.

About Apple @ Work: Bradley Chambers managed an enterprise IT network from 2009 to 2021. Through his experience deploying and managing firewalls, switches, a mobile device management system, enterprise grade Wi-Fi, 1000s of Macs, and 1000s of iPads, Bradley will highlight ways in which Apple IT managers deploy Apple devices, build networks to support them, train users, stories from the trenches of IT management, and ways Apple could improve its products for IT departments.

Wi-Fi 7 builds on what Wi-Fi 6E started with, building solely on the 6 GHz spectrum band. Outside of any speed improvements we see with Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, the 6 GHz band is the critical aspect. Yes, it’s part of the speed improvements, but it virtually eliminates the interference issues for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Only 6E and 7 compatible devices get to use the new band.

1706996396 738 Apple @ Work Ubiquiti launches the industrys lowest cost Wi Fi 7

What’s in the new access point?

The U7 Pro has the latest Wi-Fi 7 tri-radio, offering unparalleled speeds and efficiency. This cutting-edge technology ensures that your WiFi is not just fast but also intelligent, adapting to your connectivity needs seamlessly.

  • Expansive 6 GHz Support: With 6 GHz frequency support, the U7 Pro stands out by providing an interference-free WiFi experience. This is particularly beneficial in demanding environments where multiple devices are connected, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted connection. It’s also critical in multi-dwelling units as well.
  • Impressive Spatial Streaming: Featuring six spatial streams, the U7 Pro boasts enhanced capacity and throughput. This means faster downloads, smoother streaming, and a more reliable connection for all your devices.
  • Wide Coverage Area: Covering an impressive area of 140 m² (1,500 ft²), the U7 Pro is an ideal solution for large spaces. Whether it’s a spacious office, a busy café, or a large home, this AP ensures that every corner is covered.
  • High Device Connectivity: Capable of supporting over 300+ connected devices, the U7 Pro is a powerhouse of connectivity. From smartphones and laptops to IoT devices, it can handle the load with ease, making it perfect for environments with a high density of devices.
  • Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+): The convenience of PoE+ means you can power the U7 Pro without the hassle of additional wiring. This feature simplifies installation and reduces clutter, making it a sleek and efficient choice for any setting.
  • Robust 2.5 GbE Uplink: Including a 2.5 GbE uplink guarantees that your network won’t be bottlenecked by the AP’s connectivity. This ensures that the high speeds available with Wi-Fi 7 are fully realized in daily usage.
  • Mounting Options: U7 Pro uses the AP Professional Mounting System. It can be installed using the same metal mounting plate as the following AP models: U6-Enterprise, U6-Pro, U6-LR, UAP-AC-Pro, UAP-AC-HD, UAP-AC-SHD, UAP-AC-XG.

What do you need to run the U7 Pro

U7 Pro is managed with UniFi Network 8.0.26 and later. U7 Pro is powered by PoE+ with a 2.5 GbE uplink. Ubiquiti recommends pairing U7 Pro with an UniFi PoE switch that features 2.5 GbE performance and PoE+ output, such as Professional Max and Enterprise PoE switches. U7 Pro is also fully backward compatible with WiFi 6E and earlier client devices. A WiFi 6E or WiFi 7 compatible device is required to utilize the 6 GHz band.

Should you upgrade?

At these prices, it’s tough to ignore the U7 Pro. If you’re deploying a new UniFi network today, it might make sense to deploy this access point in your heavy usage areas and the most congested ones. You can easily mix and match with Ubiquiti’s other access points in your deployment. It’s likely that Ubiquiti will release a Wi-Fi 7 access point on the higher end in the coming months as well with higher specs, but this is an incredible model and an incredible value.

Especially if Wi-Fi 7 comes to Apple’s product lineup sooner than they normally upgrade to the latest standard, 2024 might end up being the year of Wi-Fi 7. You can buy the U7 Pro directly from the Ubiquiti store.

If you’re looking to streamline your Ubiquiti, I always recommend HostiFi.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 to have a cheaper version! Here is a big feature it will lose

0
The foldable market is growing extensively with Chinese brands bringing innovative products at affordable prices. However, Samsung foldable has always been in the flagship range with a massive price tag. This year Samsung might be planning to bring a cheaper version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 to meet the user demand and stay relevant in the highly competitive market. But the question that may arise in the buyer’s mind is how much will Samsung compromise with its specifications. Let’s have a look at what the new reports say about the upcoming Samsung foldables.

The new version of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Earlier The Elec had reported that Samsung might be planning to introduce a cheaper version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 to maintain its authenticity in the Chinese foldable market. This segment is growing with brands such as Oppo, Xiaomi, HONOR, and others joining the race. While Samsung plans for a cheaper version of Galaxy Z Fold 6, ETnews reported that there may be two Folds launching and the cheaper version may not include the S-pen functionality which is called the “digitizer”. However, there will be a foldable which will come with the S-pen too, just like the previous Galaxy Z Fold 5. Therefore, the report clearly states that there will be a downgrade with reduced prices for the cheaper variant of Galaxy Z Fold 6.

We are on WhatsApp Channels. Click to join.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Additionally, Samsung might also be planning to reduce the features and performance of the entry-level Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 along with the digitizer. However, there are no reports of a cheaper version of Galaxy Z Flip 6, therefore, Samsung may bring only one variant as the fifth generation of the flip phone. Note that it is too early to make any assumption as the smartphone is projected to launch in the second half of 2024. Also, note that the above claims are based on rumors and speculation and do not provide any credibility until Samsung makes any official claims.

Apple may launch foldable device in 2026, but will it be an iPhone or an iPad?

0
Apple’s highly anticipated venture into the realm of foldable devices may materialise sooner than later, with speculations suggesting a potential launch in 2026. Despite the prolonged discourse surrounding the prospect of a foldable iPhone, or iPad, concrete details have remained elusive, with only patent sketches offering glimpses into Apple’s developments in this arena. Recent insights from Korean website The Elec, as reported by MacRumors, indicate that consumers can anticipate Apple’s inaugural foldable device to debut in either 2026 or possibly extend to 2027. The reported size of the foldable display is expected to range between 7 to 8 inches, placing it in direct competition with the 7.6-inch Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Given the substantial dimensions, industry experts anticipate a book-style design for this foldable device, akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, rather than adopting the flip phone design observed in the smaller Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Foldable iPhone or Foldable iPad?

An intriguing aspect of this revelation is the uncertainty surrounding whether this device will manifest as a foldable iPhone or a foldable iPad. The Elec raises the possibility that it might serve as a replacement for the iPad mini line, although Apple is concurrently rumoured to be developing an iPad mini featuring an OLED screen.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

This presents a conundrum as to whether Apple would introduce an OLED-equipped iPad mini, anticipated around 2025 or later, followed closely by a foldable iPad. The Elec suggests that Apple is grappling with this decision, with specifications yet to be finalised, indicating an early stage in the development process.

Display Suppliers and Potential Implications

The report mentions that both Samsung Display and LG Display have been supplying Apple with 7-inch and 8-inch screen samples since the previous year. Samsung Display is expected to be the primary display supplier, leveraging its expertise gained from manufacturing screens for the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip product lines.

Despite these developments, it is crucial to approach this information cautiously. The details provided appear to be in a nascent stage, with room for alterations. While the prospect of Apple releasing a foldable device in 2026 or 2027 is not to be dismissed, it remains subject to further developments and potential modifications in the coming years.
