Samsung may pack more AI into the Galaxy S24 series to take on Google

What you need to know

  • Samsung is reportedly interested in packing more generative AI features into its Galaxy S24 series, such as AI image generation, to take on the Pixel 8 series.
  • The software may also be able to “create content and stories” based on user input.
  • Samsung announced its new Exynos 2400 SoC, which is said to boost AI software performance.

Following the software upgrades of the Google Pixel 8, Samsung is apparently seeking the same with its upcoming launch.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is reportedly considering packing more AI software into the Galaxy S24 series to take on its competitor. Allegedly, the company is interested in creating the “smartest AI phones ever,” as the devices may leverage features straight from Google Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The publication cites an unnamed source in saying such features from the two prominent AI chatbots include the ability to “create content and stories” based on a user’s input.

For right now, it’s assumed that Samsung’s Bixby will be upgraded to appear more humanlike and have more intelligent conversations with anyone inquiring. Furthermore, these new AI additions for its upcoming flagship series may hold improvements for speech-to-text while there’s also the possibility for Samsung to create its own array of AI features available in online and offline modes.

There’s still a lot hidden under wraps, but one of those in-house created AI features is likely Samsung’s text-to-image AI generation.

When the Korean OEM announced the new Exynos 2400 SoC earlier this month, AI was a consistently brought up topic as the chip was stated to provide a “14.7x boost in AI performance.” Alongside the previously mentioned AI image generation, Samsung mentioned “AI-based tracking technology” would shore up those features and be used to help the Galaxy S24 series’ cameras capture moving objects at 4x zoom.

However, consumers in the U.S. will likely receive a Galaxy S24 series variant with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Pixel 8 series launched at the beginning of October with more AI software to help its cameras, such as Audio Magic Eraser, for ridding your perfectly recorded videos of annoying sounds.

We’re still a bit away from a Galaxy S24 series launch, though it’s been rumored the company could unveil it a little earlier in mid-January 2024. Leaked renders suggest consumers could experience subtle design changes for the series, with others speaking on the possibility of a screen substitution by way of LTPO Samsung displays.
